From time to time, I find myself just needing a break from everything. A time to disconnect, a time to put the phone down and step away from it all. Do you ever feel the same way too?

We recently went on a wellness retreat and now are committed to making this an annual occurrence. Wellness retreats are vacations that allow you to focus on your mental, physical, and emotional health while participating in fitness and meditation routines, healthy eating, and spa therapies. Wellness-focused resorts can be found everywhere – there may just be one in your own neck of the woods. My personal intention was to find peace and relieve stress. As I visited during the Winter months, I was nervous I may be limited with available experiences to help me reach this goal – and fortunately I was very wrong. At  Miraval Berkshires, I had an endless supply of experiences and activities to help achieve my goals – both inside and in the great outdoors! A truly all-seasonal destination, the Berkshires in Massachusetts were the perfect setting.

At Miraval, you can go at your own pace and do as many activities as you feel up to doing. I took a beginner’s pottery class, cycling work out and I even experienced a chakra sound levitation class. There were areas where phones were not recommended, but no hard rules were put into place. It was such a relaxed environment, you can even wear a robe to dinner! Although not quite my style, I just stuck with my favorite pair of biker shorts and I can not recommend them enough. They were perfect for my morning stretch and meditation class, as well as a yoga class.

The amazing activities that I participated in were so rewarding that I found myself taking some of those practices home with me. I bought a yoga mat and continue to do coherent breathing for meditation in the morning. Our instructor introduced us to 2 bells coherent breathing.  You inhale at the sound of one bell and exhale on the other for about 5 minutes, relaxing your wandering thoughts and releasing tension in your body. Coherent breathing, or deep breathing, helps to calm the body through its effect on the autonomic nervous system. This is a great way to start your day and I highly recommend it!

You can’t skip the Life in Balance Spa either! All the way from the arrival to the point of your treatment and relaxing in their outdoor hot tub, this is truly a place to unwind. A perfect blend of design, service, and experience creates a space for tranquility and healing.
